The science of praise is the seventh of ten topics within the project “Listen first” of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), which is implemented in cooperation with the Office for Combating Drugs of the Government of the Republic of Serbia and government officials and organizations at the national level as well as at the local level, the authorities that deal with the problem of drug abuse within their competence.
Prevention of drug addiction is a key goal within the global development agenda – the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, especially within the goal of sustainable development on health.
Social studies have shown that children show a higher degree of self-esteem when their parents treat them with warmth and gentleness, while children to whom parents send frequent and overemphasized praise show a lower degree of self-esteem.
Praising children’s behavior makes children feel safe and secure; affects the development of self-esteem in children, promotes motivation and perseverance. The most effective is direct praise, focused on effort and not on ability or appearance.
