The United Nations today marks its 78th anniversary, and on this occasion, a ceremony was held in Belgrade during which a mural dedicated to the biodiversity – the rich plant and animal life of Serbia, was unveiled.
Since its establishment in San Francisco, when it had 51 member states, including Yugoslavia as one of the active founders and the first signatories of the UN Charter, the UN now has 193 member states whose work is guided by the goals and principles outlined in the UN Charter.
At the ceremony, Mrs. Francoise Jacоb, the UN Resident Coordinator for Serbia, and Mr. Ivica Dačić, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, addressed the attendees. In a very pleasant conversation with Mrs. Jacqobe, Mr. Milan Pekić, the Director of the Office for Combating Drugs, expressed gratitude for all the activities through which the UN in Serbia contribute to unity and the advancement of human rights. The Office will remain a partner of the UN, primarily with the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, in the future.
