In the period from December 4 to 6, 2023, a technical meeting of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) was held in Vienna, Austria. At the technical meeting, experts from member countries of the United Nations participated in the implementation of international obligations in the field of drug policy, in order to face the challenges identified in the Ministerial Declaration from 2019.In order to prepare for the mid-term evaluation in 2024, the United Nations Commission conducted a comprehensive review of the progress achieved in the implementation of international obligations in 2023, and two thematic discussions were held in 2023. The first thematic session was held in the period from October 23 to 25, while the second was held in December, in the period from December 4 to 6. When it comes to the session held in December, each part of the session was dedicated to a specific challenge in the field of drug policy. During the first day, there was talk about the increase in drug-related deaths, and the need for treatment and adequate health services. During the second day, there was talk about the harmful consequences related to the use of new psychoactive substances, while during the third and last day of the session, there was talk about the insufficient level of availability of controlled substances for medical and scientific purposes.
