Meeting of the intersectoral working group “Youth Health Above Profit”, focusing on protecting young people from the harmful effects of alcohol. The meeting gathered representatives from institutions, organizations, and youth leaders dedicated to improving youth health and promoting healthy lifestyles and it was held at the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade оn December 6, 2024.

Members of the working group presented their achievements in implementing measures aimed at protecting young people, particularly within Measure 5.1 of the Action Plan for the Implementation of the Youth Strategy in the Republic of Serbia for the period 2023–2025. These measures support programs contributing to the development of healthy lifestyles as well as sexual, reproductive, and mental health for young people.

The meeting was attended by Ms. Milica Kovačević from the Ministry of Tourism and Youth of the Republic of Serbia, Ana Ljubičić from the Institute of Public Health of Serbia, Dušica Šoškić from the Vojvodina Consumer Protection Association, as well as representatives of the Office for Combating Drugs, Ms. Neda Makević and Ms. Maja Savić. Also present were members of the Youth Work Center: Ms. Vanja Kalaba, Ms. Dajna Marinković, and Mr. Vladimir Kozbašić.

A highlight of the meeting was the presentation of the findings from the local study “Mystery Shopper – Youth Experiences,” presented by youth leaders Sonja Aleksić and Vasilija Kuzman from the Youth Work Center. The study shed light on the challenges young people face regarding the availability of alcohol.
Additionally, the launch of a new project titled “Youth Health Above Profit – Greater Protection of Minors as Consumers from Alcohol” was announced. This project aims to raise awareness and strengthen activities to safeguard young people from the adverse effects of alcohol commercialization.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, emphasizing that intersectoral cooperation is essential for effectively protecting young people. The presented results and plans highlight significant progress in promoting healthy lifestyles and protecting minors. With the continued commitment of all stakeholders—working groups, institutions, and civil society—efforts will persist to enhance policies and practices that create a healthy and safe environment for young people.
